Museum archeology southeast

Museum Archeology Sydost are Kalmar County Museum's commissioned archaeologists. Our mission includes protecting, preserving, inventorying, investigating, and producing and imparting knowledge about all forms of cultural and ancient monuments that exist in the landscape. Every year, we carry out a large number of commissioned archeological investigations and cultural environmental protection initiatives, primarily in Kalmar and Kronoberg counties. Our offices are located in Kalmar and Växjö.

We have ten archaeologists with solid experience of working in all types of archaeological projects. At the request of the county administrative board or private customers, we produce qualitative knowledge bases, environmental impact assessments and cultural environmental investigations. We make cost-effective inventories, archaeological investigations and preliminary and final investigations before and in connection with all types of community building projects. We also take assignments linked to knowledge production and dissemination, such as signage of ancient monuments and cultural-historical environments, production of information and popular science writings and books. We also do commissioned training in archeology.

Research and development is an important and integral part of our business. Therefore, we often and gladly participate in different types of R&D projects together with other actors. We also run our own projects, such as the highly acclaimed research project Sandby borg and development in digital documentation and dissemination. Three of our employees are doctoral students in archeology, of which two are in GRASCA, a commissioned archeological business research school at Linnaeus University in Kalmar.
