The entrance building to Karlshamn Town Hall
Karlshamn's Town Hall entrance building is designated in Karlshamn's Conservation and Development Plan. The house has particularly high cultural and historical value (blue marking). The ambitions for care and maintenance must be very high. The property must not be tampered with. Time-typical materials for roof covering must be used. The period-typical design of the chimneys must be preserved.
In 1925, the city of Karlshamn organized an architectural competition to come up with a proposal for a new building on the "Brända plot" where the Lethska property previously stood. The architect Gunnar Asplund was hired as an expert. Frans Ever's proposal "The Star" won the competition. Ernst W Svensson was hired as the builder. The entrance building was built in 1927-28 as a concert and lecture hall with a residential apartment on the second floor. The architect Frans Evers, born in 1882 with an office in Malmö, designed several buildings in clear Nordic classicism, also called twenties classicism. He drew i.a. The art gallery in Karlskrona and the police house in Malmö. The entrance building has a well-preserved character, typical of the architect.
