Building history investigation for the neighborhoods Banken, Lejonet and parts of Hushållet in the center of Västervik
We have carried out a building historical investigation for the Banken, Lejonet and parts of Hushållet blocks in preparation for a new detailed plan in the center of Västervik. The site's location as a hub at Stora torget has been important and had a high status in the city. The buildings around Stora torget are characterized by turn-of-the-century monumental buildings such as bank palaces and department stores. The blocks in the urban space represent and express the city's historical identity as a trading city and the great development that took place around the turn of the last century.
The investigation was done in connection with a new detailed plan for the area and was drawn up by the municipality of Västervik. The focus is on cultural-historical character description, particularly significant and valuable character traits, structures and objects. The report also includes antiquarian recommendations and the consequences of changes for the cultural environment.
