From wafer iron to gilded bridal crowns

From wafer iron to gilded bridal crowns – the churches' metal objects tell the story

With Karin Adriansson and Stina Damberg, conservators, Kalmar county museum
The county museum's conservators Karin Adriansson and Stina Damberg have for several years worked with a damage inventory of the churches' metal inventories on behalf of Växjö Diocese. Now they talk about their experiences from the trips around Småland, Öland and Halland. Through stamps, they have learned about the old masters and experienced fantastic craftsmanship. It is about everything from the preserved objects of the medieval churches to the introduction of new silver into the churches during the second half of the 19th century. During the lecture, the eye gets to enjoy unique objects and we get to hear about the experiences that the work has given.

The lecture is partly a repeat of the lecture previously held on the same subject. The new thing is that we get to see pictures of new, unique objects that the conservators have come across during their work.

The lecture is part of a series of lectures that is connected to the exhibition Master metals - Symbols, traditions and manufacturers which is on display at the Kalmar county museum from February 2023 to August 2023.

The exhibition and lecture series is a collaboration between the Church of Sweden in Växjö Diocese and the Kalmar County Museum.
