Volmar Sylvander - leading cultural profile in 19th century Kalmar

With Peter Danielsson, historian.

Volmar Sylvander (1816-1882) gave his name to Sylvanderparken in Kalmar, but who was he? Jo, a historian and schoolman who in 1871 founded Kalmar county's antiquities association, the forerunner of today's county museum. He also published the history of Kalmar city and castle in no less than nine volumes. Sylvander also took the initiative for excavations at Björkenäs north of Kalmar and claimed that this was the site of the actual Birka. During the evening, Peter Danielsson gives a personal biography of a diverse, contemporary cultural profile with many strings to his lyre.
