The Peasant Train 1914 - with historian Peter Danielsson
More than 100 years ago, more than 30,000 Swedish farmers from all over the country were counted in Stockholm. They would all take part in a demonstration train, which went down in history under the name Bondetåget. All this was done to protest against the liberal government's pursued defense policy and at the same time openly show support for the defense-friendly king, Gustav V. The king gave a defense-friendly speech in the royal palace courtyard where he emphasized the importance of a powerful strengthening of the Swedish military. The controversial speech led to a government crisis. How the crisis was resolved and much more we get to know in today's podcast with historian and local history consultant Peter Danielsson. Recording and production by Andreas Juhl, Kalmar County Museum.
