This is how respectable hairdressers are trained

Training as a hairdresser is not just about learning to cut straight and comb smoothly. It is also necessary to learn to think, feel, look and act like a hairdresser. But how should such a thing be? Where do the ideals and standards come from? Are they connected to gender and class and how are these values conveyed to the hairdresser students during the training? Eva Klope, researcher in pedagogy at Linnaeus University, tells us more about this based on her thesis Respectable hairdressers - Femininity and professional identity among girls in high school hairdressing education. Conversation partner: Maria Kanje, producer at the county museum. Production by Andreas Juhl.
